The final Ohio Golf Association hosted USGA Qualifier of the summer has arrived. The U.S. Mid-Amateur Qualifier will be played on Thursday, August 8 at York Golf Club in Columbus, Ohio.
Three qualifying spots and two alternate spots will be up for grabs among the 84 players in the field.
This year’s U.S. Mid-Amateur Golf Championship will be played at Kinloch Golf Club and Independence Golf Club in Manakin-Sabot, Virginia, from September 21-26.
ABOUT THE COURSE
York Golf Club is a private course in Columbus, Ohio that was designed by George Sargent and Jack Kidwell in the 1920’s.
The first club professional at York was Denny Shute, a 3-time major champion.
Set along the Olentangy River, York is a classic design that can only stretch to about 6500 yards.
Players will find ample birdie opportunities on the back-nine, with two reachable par-5’s and a drivable par-4 (No. 17).
York Golf Club has recently hosted the 2022 CDGA Amateur Championship and the 2018 Ohio Junior Amateur Championship.
FIELD NOTES
A pair of 2-time Ohio Mid-Amateur Championship winners, Scott Anderson and Michael Kelley are in the qualifying field. 2015 champ Jeff Scohy and 2012 winner Kevin Grabeman are also in the field.
The defending CDGA Mid-Amateur champion, Blake Hartford is in the field on Thursday at York. Hartford carded a final round 66 at Little Turtle Golf Club for the win.
Jeg Coughlin III headlines a group of players who have qualified from an OGA-hosted U.S. Mid-Amateur Qualifier in recent years. Coughlin was the co-medalist at last year’s qualifier at Lancaster.
Nick Reardon will look to qualify from an OGA-hosted U.S. Mid-Amateur Qualifier for a fourth time. Reardon qualified in 2021, 2019, and 2018. Other recent qualifiers include Max Rosenthal (2022) and Robert Davidge (2018).
