Davis Thompson (St. Simons Island, GA), Vaughn Harber (Blacklick, OH), JB Holmes (Campbellsville, KY), and Arni Sveinsson (Iceland) have earned their way into the 2026 U.S. Open.
Thompson, a PGA TOUR winner, topped the field of 51 players on Monday at The Lakes Golf & Country Club with a 36-hole score of 133 (-11).
Harber, a rising junior at Ohio State, stood on the 14th tee in the second round at 4-under-par and five strokes off the cut. He then holed out for birdie on 14, eagled 16, birdied 17, and hit an approach shot to two feet on 18 to set up another birdie.
The 20-year-old would find himself in a 4-for-3 playoff with five-time PGA TOUR winner JB Holmes, TCU standout Sam Udovich, and Iceland's Arni Sveinsson.
After Udovich found the penalty area with his tee shot, the other three competitors looked to take advantage. Harber hit his approach shot to less than three feet, which got the local crowd of 200+ lining the 10th fairway riled up. JB Holmes hit a poor fairway bunker shot but battled back by giving himself a short putt for par. Sveinsson found the green in regulation.
Udovich ended up making double bogey, making things very comfortable for Harber, Holmes, and Sveinsson. Holmes holed his par putt first to qualify. Sveinsson three-putted for bogey to qualify. Lastly, Harber actually missed his short birdie putt but tapped in par to advance.
Sveinsson will become the first Icelander to compete in the U.S. Open.
Udovich's double bogey meant he will become the 1st alternate. Canada's Braxton Kuntz won a playoff to be 2nd alternate over PGA TOUR players Bud Cauley, Jhonattan Vegas, and Austin Eckroat, who all finished 8-under-par.
Among the other competitors who didn't qualify was Mount Vernon's TT Crouch. Out of over 600 players who teed it up on Monday across North America for U.S. Open Final Qualifying, Crouch was one of just two to play 36 holes without a single bogey.
This year's U.S. Open takes place next week at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York.
