The 2026 Ohio Mid-Amateur Championship takes place this week, August 24-26 at Shawnee Country Club in Lima, Ohio.
130 players will compete over the first two rounds before a 36-hole cut is made to the top-40 players & ties.
The champion will earn an exemption into the next five editions of the Ohio Amateur Championship, through 2031. The top-10 finishers & ties after the completion of the 54-hole championship will become exempt into the 2027 Ohio Amateur Championship.
Dublin’s Jeg Coughlin III is the defending champion of the Ohio Mid-Amateur Championship thanks to his victory at Brookside Golf & Country Club.
ABOUT THE COURSE
Shawnee Country Club has hosted seven Ohio Golf Association championships, including the 2001 Ohio Mid-Amateur Championship and 1946 Ohio Amateur Championship.
Tom Bendelow designed the 18-hole golf course at Shawnee Country Club, which opened in 1904.
Bendelow used the natural rolling hills and the Ottawa River that winds through the course to create a beautiful and challenging layout -- one that gets tougher as you reach its back-to-front sloping greens.
Shawnee Country Club is the only remaining private country club in Lima.
FIELD NOTES
Five of the last six winners of the Ohio Mid-Amateur Championship are in the field this week, including defending champion Jeg Coughlin III. Coughlin also finished runner-up in the 2025 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship and competed in the 2026 U.S. Amateur Championship at Merion Golf Club.
Coughlin will look to join Bill Williamson as a back-to-back winner of the Ohio Mid-Amateur Championship. Williamson, the winner in both 2020 and ‘21, is also in the field.
The 2022 Ohio Mid-Amateur Championship winner, Alex Rodger, is also in the field and is in good form, as he won the GCGA Metropolitan Mid-Amateur Championship earlier this month.
Other past champions teeing it up include Domenic Maricocchi (2024), Brandon Ellis (2019), and Jeff Scohy (2016).
Peyton White, a former member of the Korn Ferry Tour, comes to Shawnee fresh off of a medalist performance last week in the U.S. Mid-Amateur Qualifier at Rattlesnake Ridge Golf Club.
A handful of other former Ohio Golf Association champions will tee it up this week at Shawnee Country Club. It should be a great week with great competition!
