Jon Kaplan birdied the final three holes to propel himself and Kasey Kafzger to the Ohio Two Man Best Ball Championship title on Tuesday at Worthington Hills Country Club.
Coming into the day, the duo trailed Brett Kaufmann & Daniel Belden by a shot. The overnight leaders would struggle, setting up a duel between Nafzger & Kaplan and fellow playing partners Josh Veith & Nick Reardon on the back-nine.
Veith & Reardon, the 2023 Ohio Two Man Best Ball champions, held a one shot lead with three holes to play. Reardon and Kaplan threw darts on the difficult par-4 16th, and both made birdie.
On 17, Kaplan made a 10-footer down the hill to tie his team for the lead. Meanwhile, Veith and Reardon both faced testers for par to remain in a tie. Reardon's putt viciously lipped out and Veith's attempt missed, giving Kaplan/Nafzger the lead heading to the 18th tee.
On the par-5 18th, Kaplan again hit his approach shot close, setting up a third consecutive birdie and a win for the team.
This win comes as a breakthrough for both Kaplan and Nafzger in their respective golf careers.
