Jack Waldock has lived within six miles of Plum Brook Country Club all his life. In his forty-nine years of membership he has been president, board member, committee member and tournament chairman. He was president of the Toledo District Golf Association in 1992. He originated the Ohio Senior Open and co-founded with George Mateyo, the Ohio Golf Hall of Fame, of which he is Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He has been the Tournament Chairman of the Ohio Senior Golf Hall of Fame Championship since its inception in 1992.
He has six children, most of whom still live in the Sandusky area. He claims they all learned to write their names at the snack shack at Plum Brook’s swimming pool.
His wife Linda is an ardent but still novice golfer who has become quite adept in telling him his tempo is too fast.
He was graduated summa cum laude from Ohio State University in 1950, where he was on the intercollegiate livestock and meats judging teams. He received the lifetime achievement award from the Lake Erie Commission for his work on Lake Erie. In 1999 Jack received the Dan Heinlen award for being an outstanding alumni at OSU.
He founded Selection, Inc. and The Selected Meat Company, the meat industry’s leader in the sale of meat type pork. Mr. Waldock was a partner in Lind-Waldock and Company, the nation’s largest discount commodity futures broker with offices worldwide. Jack is a member of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and the International Options Market.
Even though he teamed with his father to win the Father and Son Trap Shooting Championship of North America in 1949, it soon became apparent that golf was to be his lifetime sport. He joined Plum Brook in 1951, and won his first of 15 Club Championships in 1953. He won the Sandusky City Championship in 1962. He has also won seven Senior Championships at Plum Brook and three Senior Championships at The Forest Country Club in Fort Myers, Florida. By winning the Men’s Club Championship at The Forest in March of 2000, he achieved the rare feat of having won at least on Men’s Club Championship in six consecutive decades.
