A pair of collegiate golfers from the state of Ohio earned their ticket to Riviera Country Club.
Czechia's Veronika Kedronova, a standout of the Kent State golf team, was medalist at Monday's U.S. Women's Open Qualifier at New Albany Country Club. Kedronova carded rounds of 71 and 72 in windy conditions and will advance to play in her first major championship.
Kedronova came in to the qualifier as one of the favorites to advance, as she currently sits at No. 60 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
The two-time MAC Women's Golfer of the Year will add the U.S. Women's Open to her increasingly impressive resume this year. Kedronova recently competed in the Augusta National Women's Amateur and was named to the International Arnold Palmer Cup team on Tuesday.
The second player to advance was England's Nellie Ong, a member of the Ohio State Women's Golf Team.
Ong carded rounds of 70 and 74 to finish one stroke behind Kedronova. Ong's berth into the U.S. Women's Open was never in doubt, as she led the way after 18 holes and was never within two shots of the cut-line during play in the second round.
The Buckeye is in the midst of a career year, having earned first-team All-Big Ten honors. Ong led Ohio State in scoring average, birdies, and counted rounds. Just this spring, she finished runner-up at the Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational and won the silver medal at the Big Ten Championship.
The Ohio Golf Association's
USGA Qualifying schedule continues next Monday at Scioto Reserve Country Club with U.S. Open Locals.
