Liam Curtis, a recent graduate of Kent Roosevelt High School, won the 2025 Ohio Junior Championship on Wednesday at Ashland Golf Club.
Solid iron-play carried Curtis for much of the week and allowed him to play relatively steady golf. All three of his rounds were under-par, 68-70-71 (-7).
Despite a nervous start in the final round with two bogeys in his first three holes, Curtis' lead that he held for the entirety of the tournament never entirely slipped away.
After Zac McGrath tied it up in the middle of the front-nine, Curtis steadied the ship before throwing darts on the par-5 9th and par-3 10th, which led to consecutive birdies.
With a couple of dropped shots by McGrath, all of the sudden the Curtis lead had ballooned to four strokes, a margin he'd go on to win by.
Liam is the son of Ben Curtis, a 2003 British Open champion. His father also won a pair of Ohio Amateur Championships. Like his father, he will play his collegiate golf at Kent State University.
In the 15 & Under division, Zac McGrath and Elijah Stewart went back-and-forth for much of the final round. McGrath bogeyed three straight holes from 9 to 11, giving Stewart a lead. However, the rising freshman at St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati birdied the next three holes to go three up on Stewart.
McGrath held on down the stretch to edge Stewart by two shots to win the 15 & under division. He'd finish in a tie for runner-up overall.
Stewart, a 13-year-old from East Liverpool and 2025 Team Ohio member, ended the championship in a tie for 4th overall.
Seven Hills' Benjamin Berridge finished third in the 15 & under division thanks to a 67 (-5) in the final round, the best 18-hole score of the championship.
