Following the 7-for-3 playoff, 11 golden tickets have been punched into the 2025 U.S. Amateur Championship, to be played at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, from Aug. 11-17.
Baron Szeto (Moraga, Ca.) and Daniel Stringfellow (Roselle, Ill.) topped the qualifying field at the Ohio State Unviersity Golf Club Scarlet Course with 6-under 65's.
Szeto, who recently completed his collegiate career 3,000 miles away at Cal Poly, has had more success than anyone this year at the Scarlet Course.
In April, Szeto was medalist at Robert Kepler Invitational, hosted by Ohio State. That weekend, he was the only player to finish under-par.
On Wednesday, the All-Big West performer finished as co-medalist with a 6-under 65. To cap it off, Szeto made an ace on the par-3 17th from 204 yards out with a 4 iron.
Among the 11 qualifiers who will tee it up at the Olympic Club in a few weeks are four Ohioans.
Former Ohio State player Jeg Coughlin III shot a 4-under 67 to tie for third. Coughlin will make his first U.S. Amateur Championship appearance after being an alternate twice before.
Also tying for third and returning to the U.S. Amateur Championship is two-time Ohio Amateur champion, Andrew Bailey.
Mason's Luke Metzger, a member of the University of Findlay golf team, finished in a tie for fifth alongside Cincinnati's Victor Caliguri.
With seven tying at 2-under 69 after regulation, a 7-for-3 playoff commenced on the 10th hole at the Scarlet Course.
Ieuan Jones, Matthew Armstrong, and Bryce Wheeler each made par to advance to the Olympic Club. The latter of which made the most surprising par, as Wheeler holed a 30-foot putt to secure his golden ticket.
Matthew Novak earned the 1st alternate position after making birdie on the 4th playoff hole. Hunter Swidzinski got the 2nd alternate spot a hole later.
