On Wednesday at the Ohio State University Golf Club, 81 players will compete for 13 spots into the 2026 U.S. Amateur Championship.
This year’s U.S. Amateur Championship will take place from August 10-16 at Merion Country Club and Philadelphia Country Club. Merion Country Club has played host to 19 USGA Championships, including the 2013 U.S. Open, won by Justin Rose.
ABOUT THE COURSE
Alister McKenzie, the architect of Augusta National and Cypress Point, designed the Ohio State University Golf Club Scarlet Course in 1931, but passed away in 1934. Perry Maxwell oversaw the construction of the course until its opening in 1938.
The course was renovated in 2006 by Jack Nicklaus, who restored bunkers and lengthened the course. The Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship, a staple on the Korn Ferry Tour, is played at Scarlet each fall. The OHSAA Division I State Championship has also been contested on the property for decades.
The Scarlet course, along with the Ohio Golf Association has hosted U.S. Amateur Final qualifying the last two years, as well as U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Open Final Qualifying in 2024. Earlier this year, the Scarlet Course also hosted U.S. Junior Qualifying.
